They say acceptance is the first step. So I am here to say it.
I AM A COFFEE ADDICT. You think I’m joking? Try crossing me at 3 in the afternoon when I haven’t had my morning cup o’ joe, and then get back to me. It’s that legit.
As a Tampa native who lives for a steaming mug of freshly brewed coffee with a splash of almond milk, I’m here to tell you that my city will not disappoint all you coffee lovers. Here are the spots that I swear by.
Can’t decide if you want coffee or beer for breakfast? Clearly, these guys discovered a way to do both. The eccentric coffee shop in Channelside serves Nitro Cold Brew and hot coffee by day, then turns into a vibrant bar by 3 PM, serving homemade beer by the pint.
Their specialty is the peanut butter cold brew – needless to say, I was floored. No wonder they have so many regulars! It’s one of those places where you could hang out all day and not get bored. I found myself conversing with the owners like I had known them for years (who both sport GINGER BEARDS by the way) and am definitely going back ASAP for a game of pool and a nitro float.
This place is hands down one of my favorite places in Ybor City. Inspired by the obscure speakeasies of the prohibition era, the Blind Tiger’s low-key vibe provides the perfect place to take a break on a busy day.
They offer classic coffee creations like espressos and Americanos as well as unique specialties inspired by Spain, Cuba and Germany. They even have cold brew and kombucha on tap in addition to an assortment of delicious teas (I went for the iced turmeric ginger). They also offer super cute apparel if you want to rock some Blind Tiger gear around town. Check out their locations in SoHo and Seminole Heights if that’s closer to you!
In the mood for some avo toast and a vanilla latte? Then you’ve got to try Buddy Brew. It is by far my favorite cafe to go if I want something more than just coffee. Their avocado toast with a poached egg is out of this world – I haven’t found anywhere else that does it like they do!
Their coffee is just as satisfying and is served at tons of other restaurants around Tampa including the amazing Oxford Exchange. But aside from the delicious creations you’ll consume here, the whole place is ridiculously Instagrammable. Definitely go to the location on Kennedy if you’re getting a meal with your coffee, but hit up the Buddy Brew in Hyde Park for a quick drink and a stroll through the village!
Oh and BONUS: Grab your girls and enjoy $5 mimosas from 11 to 3 on the weekends!
Nestled in the heart of Tampa Heights is no other than Foundation Coffee. This family-owned café is housed in a historic 1920’s building just four blocks from downtown Tampa, making it the perfect stop for a weekday pick-me-up. In addition to the assortment of tea and coffee concoctions, they offer light meals like hot sandwiches and pasta salad that are perfect for your lunch break. There’s also a cooler of Whatever Pops if you’re craving a sweet lil’ snack!
The reason I love this place – besides the amazing cold brew – is the unique interior. It’s minimalistic and modern with high ceilings, washed out brick, and tons of natural lighting. And it’s as if the outdoor seating area was designed specifically for aesthetic photo shoots – the wooden benches, white accents and palm fronds make for the perfect Insta post. I could have stayed here all day!
